So We Bought A House

I know it has been a while since I have written anything, first of course out of laziness but my second excuse is definitely the new house.  Mom came in town for almost two weeks, and thank goodness because we couldn't have done it without her. We were delayed a little because our paperwork didn't go through the IRS on time for our first time home buyer credit.  Instead of being able to close on Tuesday, we had to wait until Wednesday, October 21st, but as of then we have been official homeowners!!  Here is me by the sign and Erich signing the mortgage.  (I'm on the title to the house, but not the mortgage, how lucky am I!)

After we officially owned it, Mom rarely if ever left.  She worked all day everyday.  It was absolutely amazing and I have never seen anything like it.  We hired some guys to redo our fireplace, add some closets upstairs, and extend the master bath.  We thought it wouldn't be that big of a deal, maybe be done over the weekend, but oh how we underestimated.  Erich and I didn't really price anything before starting construction and our little project ended thousands of dollars later.  Thank goodness for the help and knowledge of Mom and Dad or it probably wouldn't have been done at all.  Dad flew in for about 5 days and took care of all the "little things" that need some know how.  For example he replaced all the light switches, hinges, and door knobs.  He also helped us pick out the tile for the fireplace and realize that there is no way we could install and wire a ceiling fan by ourselves.  To sum it up the project was a total team effort with Mom and Dad leading the team.

We repainted the entire house, including all the trim, doors, and most of the ceilings.  We got new carpet in the whole house, we redid most of the upstairs bathroom, we changed the fireplace wall, added closets in the master, installed ceiling fans and lights in the two downstairs bedrooms, got a new refrigerator, and moved in, in 11 days. AND we did it without the help of extreme makeover home edition!
