All together there were five of us in our group. We wanted to be plenty early so we could get a good seat. It started at 5:15 so we left my friends apartment to get on the metro about 2:15. Then we got downtown and stood in line until 3:30 when they opened the gates. The security was tight, but we all made it through. Then we just sat around for an hour and a half before the show started. This was the worst part. Waiting in the freezing cold, but there was much excitement in the air.
We were lucky enough to get "seated" tickets, which meant we got to go up much closer and we got chairs! There were more than a few thousand people there many of which were standing up at the last fenced area smashed up against one another. We were like celebrities. We just showed them our green tickets and kept on walking. Very Cool.
It was a great show complete with a short speech from President Obama, performances from Jordin Sparks, Sheryl Crow, Common (a rapper), and Santa Clause, and hosted by Randy Jackson from American Idol. There were some more people, that I was not familiar with too, but all in all it was a good show. Randy Jackson hosted from about 20 feet away from us.
The Presiden'ts whole family was there along with the Vice President and his grandaughters. Also, there was one tree for each state that had been decorated you will see in the photos.
The tree before and after:
