Blizzard of 2010

Well, that's what the news stations are calling it, the Blizzard of 2010, Snowmageddon, and of course the Snowpacalypse. Really people, its just snow, granted there is a lot of it, but maybe I'm just over the cutesy name for everything that the media is really into.

If you scroll back a few posts you can compare this snowstorm to the last one I posted in Dec. and see the difference. Pretty interesting to think we thought that was a lot of snow.

I got to work from home yesterday because it started at about 10am. I still worked until about 8:30 so its not like I got off early or anything, but at least I was home with Erich. Today its so thick, I wouldn't even attempt to go out. Everyone knew the storm was coming so the grocery stores had been emptied. No milk, bread, salt, frozen pizza - the usual. A lot of people have been losing power, but we have been lucky so far. People keep going out in this and getting stuck or getting in accidents. Come on people, its on every news station and has been for a week. The even cancelled wheel of fortune and jeopardy to do more news coverage. Quit leaving your house!!!!

Downtown its not so bad, the metro is running, underground only, and a lot of places are walking distance so those people have packed out starbucks. Hmmm.

Keep in mind most of these pictures were from 9 am this morning and it has been snowing all day. Probably another 8-12 inches.

This is the street in front of our house:

This is our back yard and our neighbor's house - look at the roof!

Every time we have had a snow storm this winter it has been on Saturday. Now that I'm a working person I would really appreciate if it would move to a Monday or Tuesday.

So a few stats I heard on the news. Right now for the season we are already in the top ten ever recorded at 41.7 inches. This is my fourth year living here and the first three years were all under 10 inches. We have at least 20 inches at our house right now and its still snowing. Its not going to get warmer and its supposed to snow again on Tuesday and Sunday.

The snow was so heavy it started breaking branches off the trees, luckily the girls were inside they are pretty massive branches

Erich took the girls out to the golf course this morning to play around and they both came back with snowballs frozen into their fir. The snow was so thick Bella was whining because she couldn't get through. Erich had to make her a path while Cinnie did little hops around. We had to put them in the bath tub while we blowdried the snowballs. Terrible.

  1. Now that is a good amount of snow. However if I have to be around that much snow then it had better be in Colorado so I can ski =) For everyday I think I will stick to the little flurries we have here in Texas...if that's what you can call them.
