Getting the News Out

If you haven't heard.... I'm Pregnant!!!!

I know this is not news to my family and people I have seen recently, but my extended network may not know just yet.  This is because I have not posted anything on facebook or this blog.  I have still not told my work and I'm still not quite ready for them to know.

There is a date insight though, June 20.  That is because on June 20, I will be 18 weeks and I'm not sure how much longer they will fail to notice my bulging belly.  We recently had our evaluations and even though they claim it doesn't make a difference, I didn't want the baby to have any influence on their decisions.  June 13 the decisions are final.

Fun things coming up..... We are flying to Shreveport, LA for my friend from college, Rachel's wedding!!!  Should be so much fun.  Then from there we are flying to Hawaii!!!  Erich's work is sending him on a business trip so I get to tag along for the cost of a plane ticket! Pretty cool.  More details when we get back and have pictures.  Anyway, the day I get back is the 19th and I will have to go back to work the 20th, which is when I'm thinking they might start to notice.

I'm 4 months today (16 weeks).  The baby is due November 18-21, but may arrive much sooner, I will get into it a little farther down.  We hope to find out if it is a boy or girl on MONDAY!!!  This little baby better cooperate!!  Erich and I are sure its a boy, my mom, sister-in-law and others are sure its a girl.  I have bought exactly 2 baby things.  One outfit for a boy, one outfit for a girl.  That's it.  This is not to say that my mother and mother-in-law haven't bought anything.  It looks like both of them are having babies by all the baby stuff they have!!!!

We have some names picked out, but they change everyday so still nothing definitive.  We are open to suggestions.  Maybe we should have a Name that Baby contest!!

So back to the, "may arrive much sooner."  I have a birth defect called a bicornuate uterus.  It is a condition where my uterus is not the normal shape, it is split into two compartments.  This condition is extremely rare, less than .5% of the population.  Many people still have babies with this condition, but because the limited space in the uterus it causes the baby to typically run out of room and be delivered early.  I did not know I had this until my second ultrasound when the doctor found it.  Our main concerns are late term miscarriage, which would be anything before 24 weeks or 6 months.  At this point the baby is not viable, and preterm or early labor.  After 24 weeks the baby has a shot, but everyday after that the baby stays in the womb the better its chances of survival without problems.  We would like to make it to at least 29 weeks, the survival rate and problems decrease significantly at that point.  For those of you who don't know too much about babies, the typical due date is at 40 weeks.
